The Karate style I study is called GoJu Ryu which means “hard-soft style” and comes from Okinawa. The training at my dojo (school) consists of:
- Kata – A series of punches, blocks, kicks and turns
- Bunkai – Application of kata with a partner
- Kumite – Self Defense Sets
- Kobudo – Weapons Training
There are many Japanese words that are used to greet others respectfully, to count and to name the various katas, punches, blocks, etc.
